Does Smart CSV change my original file?

No. Smart CSV works on its own copy. Your edits go into the CSV file only when you tap Write to file, and a file in iCloud Drive, Google Drive or another app is never changed there. See Undo & saving.

My file shows garbled letters or everything in one column

The encoding or the separator was read wrong. Open the file, tap ⋯ → Import options, and pick another Separator or Encoding while watching the preview. See Open a file.

I edited the file on my computer. Why don’t I see the changes?

If you picked the file from Files, iCloud Drive or Google Drive, Smart CSV notices when the original changes and offers the new version (pull down on the home list to check). If the file came from Mail or a chat app, open the new copy from there again.

Will the file open correctly in Excel?

Yes. When you write to file, choose UTF-8 with BOM so Excel reads accented and non-Latin letters correctly.

Why is my file read-only?

Either you haven’t confirmed the import yet (tap Looks right), the file has more than 50 rows on the free version (Free & Pro), or the table is showing the result of your own SQL query.

Is my data sent anywhere?

Your files stay on your phone. The AI assistant sends only your question and your column names, never the values in your cells.

How big a file can Smart CSV open?

Smart CSV reads large files a page at a time, so files with many thousands of rows scroll smoothly. The first open of a big file takes a moment while it’s imported, with a progress bar; later opens are instant. A single cell can hold up to 100,000 characters.
